Policy: Virginia Academy of Irish Dance
GENERAL INFORMATION

Annual non-refundable registration fee per dancer: $30 ($90 family max)

Enrollment is open to children age 6 (as of September 1) and older.

Family discount: 1st and 2nd dancer full price, 3rd half price, 4th and beyond free.

Core Classes cost $80 per month, per dancer.

Competition Preparation Classes will be scheduled and held on an as-needed basis. Prices TBD.

Shows/Performances are dependent upon outside bookings and are outside of the teacher’s control. Regardless of outside bookings, Troupe dancers receive exclusive choreographies for the Spring Production and Parade.

Monthly tuition for Core Class is due by the first class of the month.

There is a $20 late fee for tuition paid after the first class of the month.

By the second class of the month your dancer may be refused admittance until tuition balance (including late fees) is paid.

Payments may be made by Zelle, cash, or check payable to “Virginia Irish Dance Academy” or “VAID”.

All payments are final and all classes are non-refundable.

Families are obligated to pay full monthly tuition regardless of how many classes are missed/will be missed by their dancer that month.

VAID/Shani does not prorate tuition for missed classes.

There is no discount for Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, or Easter holidays.

There is no discount for inclement weather cancellations.

Tuition balance and any late fees must be up to date if a dancer discontinues classes.

Classes are sorted based on a combination of age, ability, and experience, and dancers are placed according to the teacher’s discretion.

VAID/Shani DuFrain, TCRG, reserves the right to assess and place dancers on an individual basis.

Virginia Academy of Irish Dance students are not permitted to attend the classes, camps, clinics, or workshops of any other Irish dance school. (Does not include official USAIDA Branch events.)

Families transferring from another certified Irish dance school are responsible for any applicable transfer fees.
DRESS CODE/ATTIRE

Dancers should wear clothing that allows for freedom of movement while also providing appropriate coverage.
-
Hair should be tied back or secured out the face.
-
Dancers should dress appropriately and modestly according to a family friendly environment.
-
Bike shorts must be worn under shorts and skirts to provide coverage of underwear.

Dancers should plan to wear shorts or a skirt/skort above the knee to class. Baggy sweatpants may be worn on top for travel and warm-ups but should be removed after warm-ups.

Leggings are not recommended for students.

Dancers are required to have proper Irish dance shoes at all times during classes, rehearsals, and performances.
OPERATING DATES AND CLASS CLOSURES

Classes are held even if they land on federal and bank holidays unless specifically mentioned otherwise.

VAID follows Prince William County Public School closures for inclement weather.
-
PWCPS closures and afternoon activity cancellations due to inclement weather will result in the cancellation of dance classes unless specifically stated otherwise.

There are no make-up classes for inclement weather closures; snow day considerations are built into the curriculum.

Classes cancelled by a teacher for emergency or personal reasons will be made up. Make-ups will be scheduled according to teacher availability.

There will be a one week break with no classes held the week of Thanksgiving.
-
There will be a two week break with no classes held the week of Christmas and New Year’s Day.
-
There will be a two week break with no classes held the week before Easter (Holy Week), and the week of Easter.
-
There will be no classes held during the months of July and August unless otherwise specified. Summer camps are treated as separate entities from classes and are not included in this statement.
ETIQUETTE AND CONDUCT

Dancers must be free from fever (Fever in this case to mean a temperature >100°) to participate in class.

If your child has been sick with a contagious illness (e.g. pink-eye), please notify the teacher.

Dancers should silence cell phones and leave them in their bags during class.

VAID reserves the right to dismiss a dancer from class or require them to temporarily sit on the side as a consequence for disrespectful or unruly behavior.

Dancers repeatedly guilty of disrespectful or unruly behavior may be asked to leave the school.

Physical contact between students and teachers may be required in order to demonstrate, correct, and assist in learning and performing various exercises, dance movements, routines, and postures.

Dancers should bring plenty of water.

Dancers should arrive a few minutes early to be prepared (i.e. finished tying shoes, using the restroom, etc.) to begin class at the assigned start time.
INJURY/FIRST AID

Where injury occurs, the student will receive first aid from a qualified individual, and physical contact may be required.

In the event of injury or sickness, parents/guardians will be contacted via the emergency information provided through registration.

Parents/guardians are responsible for alerting the teachers to previous or current injuries/medical conditions or concerns.

A doctor’s note may be required for certain instances regarding injuries and class participation/absence.
